MAHE publishes a book on surgical aphorisms

Udupi, December 25: Manipal Universal Press (MUP), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has published a book titled ‘The Wisdom Behind Surgical Aphorisms‘ written by Dr. S. Sivananda Prabhu, Professor and Unit Head, Department of Surgery. KMC, Mangaluru.

Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE released the book published by Manipal Universal Press on 23 December at Medical Education AV Hall, KMC, Mangaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Venkatesh said, “I am here today as a fellow surgeon.” The Vice Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal was a surgeon practicing for more than four decades. Speaking about his experience with the book, he mentioned its fluid readability and relatability even for experienced surgeons. “The novice surgeon”, he elaborated, “faces insecurities and security in the operation theatre.” This is captured in the book through additional guidance by the author in understanding aphorisms passed down from centuries-old master surgeons. He concluded his remarks by praising the book for being pure distilled wisdom, and also congratulated Manipal Universal Press for its achievements.

The author, Dr. Sivananda Prabhu, explained the beginning of the book as a tryst two and a half years ago during the times of Covid, and became a memoir of his experiences as a surgeon. He was constantly inspired and guided by his gurus through this process. His knowledge served as a trigger for master surgeons to begin collecting aphorisms in various forms. His tireless efforts to bring the book to fruition inspired and impressed the audience.

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Neeta Inamdar, Chief Editor, MUP elaborated the processes of MUP and invited young doctors and writers to come up with books.

Pro Vice Chancellors of MAHE, Mangaluru Campus Dr. Dilip S. Naik, Dr. Suresh Shetty, Dr. Pramod Kumar and Dr. Sreekala Baliga, Associate Dean, Kasturba Medical College and Managing Editor of MUP, Arvind N. were also present at the function.
